Guides at each location will greet you to to share information about the property and how it plays a role in Alexandria’s rich history.

  • Yes! To do so, please visit the Douglas County Historical Society at 1219 Nokomis Street in Alexandria during our business hours, Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (* As of May 12, the section of Nokomis Street outside our building is closed to through traffic, but you may still enter to access the historical society!)

Q. How do I get my tickets once I’ve purchased them?

    • Please note that although ticket pick-up begins at 11 a.m., houses on the tour open at 12 p.m.

Q. Do I need to visit the locations in a specific order?

  • You do not! The historic house tour is self-guided, and you may start at any property, visit as few or as many as you like, and visit them in any order.

Q. Will you have the list of historic properties available online/digitally/before the tour?

  • As many of the stops on the tour are privately owned residences, DCHS will not publish property addresses/locations online or in advance, to preserve the privacy of the homeowners who have graciously offered their spaces for this event. Addresses and information will be provided at check-in and to ticketholders only. Thank you for understanding.

Q. Does DCHS provide transportation between locations?

  • We do not. Guests will be responsible for their own transportation, whether driving, walking, cycling, etc. Please plan ahead and be mindful of the forecast!

Q. Is there a rain/make-up date?

  • The tour is rain or shine—as the event relies on location hosts, docents, property availability, and more—and all ticket sales are final.

Q. Can I bring my dog/pet?

  • We ask that dogs and other animals (with the exception of ADA service animals*) stay at home, as we are guests in these residences. We also ask that you not bring your animal with the intention of ‘tying them up’ outside tour stops. (* Please note that service animal entry is at the discretion of the homeowner for private residences.)

Q. Can I bring my child?

  • Yes! Please note that all attendees, child or adult, will require a ticket (with the exception of infants.)
